The House prosecution panel announced that it will no longer conduct a redirect examination of National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Director Melvin Matibag, who served as its final witness for the article of impeachment concerning the alleged grave threats made by Vice President Sara Duterte against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.and other individuals.

Lead prosecutor Batangas Representative Gerville Luistro said the prosecution found a redirect examination unnecessary after Matibag completed his cross-examination by defence counsel Mark Vinluan.

During the proceedings, the prosecution also addressed questions surrounding the affidavit of alleged Davao Death Squad hitman Arturo Lascañas, which was presented as part of Matibag's testimony.

Luistro clarified that the prosecution never claimed the affidavit was notarised and explained that it was introduced only as part of the NBI's investigation and as one of the documents reviewed during Matibag's inquiry.

The issue arose after Senator Pia Cayetano pointed out that the affidavit was not notarised and argued that such a document would generally not be admissible as evidence.

Vinluan likewise argued that, under the rules, an affidavit should be identified and testified to by its maker or the proper authority, describing the document as merely a 'scrap of paper.

' However, impeachment presiding officer Francis 'Chiz' Escudero explained that the affidavit was not being presented as an authenticated document but only as material used by Matibag during his open-source investigation.

The impeachment case against Vice President Duterte includes allegations of betrayal of public trust, alleged threats of violence against the President, and the accumulation of unexplained wealth.The hearing reflects the continuing legal debates over the admissibility and weight of evidence presented during the impeachment trial.
