William Ruto Engages Communities Directly Ahead of 2027 Election
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has firmly dismissed allegations suggesting there are plans to rig or manipulate Kenya’s 2027 General Election.
In a strong statement, the Commission assured Kenyans that the electoral system remains independent, credible, and fully protected under the Constitution.
IEBC Chairperson Erastus Edung Ethekon described recent remarks by some political actors claiming possible extra-legal interference in the elections as reckless, misleading, and without any factual basis.
He warned that such statements risk undermining public trust in democratic institutions and could create unnecessary fear and uncertainty among citizens ahead of the polls.
The Commission reiterated that, under Article 88 of the Constitution, it is the sole body mandated to conduct and supervise elections in Kenya, and no external actors can influence or control its operations.
IEBC also defended the integrity of the country’s electoral framework, stating that over the years Kenya has built a strong democratic system anchored on transparency, accountability, and the rule of law.It rejected claims that the institution is weak or vulnerable to political manipulation, calling such assertions disrespectful and false.
The Commission further clarified that no official election period is currently in place, meaning there is no legal basis for premature allegations of vote rigging. It also noted that the Electoral Code of Conduct only becomes active during an official election cycle.IEBC announced that it will work with relevant authorities to address any inflammatory statements that could damage public confidence.Additionally, the Commission urged political leaders to act responsibly and support efforts aimed at strengthening trust in the electoral process. It also encouraged citizens to take part in ongoing voter registration exercises across the country.
The IEBC reaffirmed its commitment to delivering free, fair, and credible elections in 2027 in line with constitutional requirements and international standards.
