President Ruto Launches Development Projects in Northern Kenya Ahead of Madaraka Day

President William Ruto started a three-day tour of northern Kenya on Sunday, visiting Wajir County as part of preparations for the Madaraka Day celebrations in Wajir town.

His first stop was Wajir South Constituency, where he commissioned the Habaswein Solar PV-BESS-Diesel Hybrid Power Plant, a KSh639 million project by Kenya Power and Lighting Company set to supply electricity to 8,565 households.

The President highlighted that northern Kenya has the lowest access to electricity in the country and directed the Ministry of Energy to implement measures to accelerate connections.Overall, the government plans to spend KSh8.4 billion this year to connect over 53,300 households in Wajir, Mandera, and Garissa counties.During the tour, Ruto also inspected road projects, including 7.5km of upgraded roads in Habaswein worth KSh557 million and 10km of tarmacked roads in Griftu costing KSh1 billion.

On education, he announced the employment of 100 additional teachers per constituency in northern Kenya and the establishment of four teacher training colleges in Wajir, Garissa, and Mandera, with over 4,800 trainees currently enrolled.

The President assured residents that the 740km road network under the Horn of Africa Gateway Development Project will be completed as scheduled, emphasising the government's commitment to inclusive development and service delivery in the region.
