PMD forecasts rain, thunderstorms and windstorms across Pakistan from June 16 to 20, with light rain expected in Karachi
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder and former prime minister Imran Khan was taken from Adiala Jail to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) for a scheduled eye treatment follow-up, where doctors administered his fifth intravitreal injection as part of an ongoing treatment plan.
According to the hospital administration, ophthalmology specialists examined the 74-year-old politician before the procedure and found him clinically stable.Medical assessments, including optical coherence tomography (OCT), reportedly showed signs of improvement in his eye condition. The procedure was carried out by specialist surgeons under microscopic guidance and was completed successfully as a day-care intervention.Hospital officials stated that Imran Khan remained vitally stable before, during and after the treatment.Following the procedure, he was discharged with instructions regarding future care and follow-up examinations. This latest treatment follows a previous intravitreal injection administered in April 2026.
While Pims did not publicly disclose the specific medication used or provide detailed information about the diagnosis, intravitreal injections are commonly used to treat serious retinal disorders. These may include retinal vein occlusion, diabetic retinal disease and age-related macular degeneration.
Reports previously submitted to the Supreme Court indicated that Imran Khan had been diagnosed with central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO), a condition caused by blockage of the main vein responsible for draining blood from the retina.
The disease can lead to vision impairment and is often associated with risk factors such as hypertension, diabetes, high cholesterol and cardiovascular disease.
Officials have not announced the date of his next examination, but patients undergoing such treatment are generally monitored regularly to evaluate progress and determine whether additional injections are required.
