PMD forecasts rain, thunderstorms and windstorms across Pakistan from June 16 to 20, with light rain expected in Karachi

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast widespread rain, thunderstorms and windstorms in many parts of the country between June 16 and June 20 due to a westerly weather system and moisture-laden currents moving in from the Arabian Sea.

According to the advisory, several regions of Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan are expected to experience unstable weather conditions, including dust storms, strong winds, thunderstorms and, in some locations, heavy rainfall and hailstorms.Karachi and nearby areas are likely to receive light rain accompanied by dust storms during the forecast period.

Major cities across Punjab, including Lahore, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Gujranwala and Sialkot, may also receive rain, while some urban centres could face temporary flooding due to heavy downpours.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, upper and central districts are expected to witness intermittent rain and thunderstorms, with isolated heavy falls and hailstorms.Similar conditions are forecast for parts of Balochistan.

The PMD has also extended rain forecasts for Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, where weather activity is expected to continue until June 22 in some districts.

Authorities have warned that strong winds, lightning and hailstorms could damage vulnerable infrastructure such as solar panels, electricity poles and billboards. The department further cautioned about the possibility of landslides in sensitive mountainous areas of KP, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir.

Farmers have been advised to plan agricultural activities according to weather conditions, while tourists and travellers are urged to remain cautious and avoid unnecessary travel during the period of severe weather.
