A 30-year-old Indian marine engineer, Heramb Karmarkar from Pune, died following a commercial vessel attack off the Oman coast.His body was recovered nearly 60 hours after he went missing, according to a Forward Seamen’s Union member.The incident occurred when the vessel GFS Galaxy was attacked, causing engine damage and leaving one seafarer missing.

While the Indian government has not officially confirmed his death, it has pledged to monitor all Indian sailors in conflict-prone regions like the Persian Gulf and Strait of Hormuz.This follows a series of attacks on commercial ships in the area, with tensions between the US and Iran escalating.India has summoned an Iranian diplomat to protest the incident and plans to create a dashboard for tracking seafarers.Since hostilities began in West Asia, at least five Indian sailors have died, highlighting ongoing risks for maritime workers.
