Pakistan reiterates commitment to UN peacekeeping missions and honours sacrifices of peacekeepers
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar visited Washington on May 29, 2026, where he met with US Secretary of State and National Security Adviser Marco Rubio.
The meeting, which included a photo session, focused on reviewing bilateral relations, discussing regional and global developments, and promoting cooperation in key sectors.The talks also covered Pakistan's role in promoting peace and stability through dialogue and diplomacy.This visit follows Dar’s three-day trip to New York for United Nations-related meetings.He was welcomed at the US capital by Pakistan’s Ambassador Rizwan Saeed Sheikh and senior embassy officials.Concurrently, there are ongoing negotiations between the US and Iran to extend the fragile ceasefire and address Iran's nuclear ambitions.
Reports indicate that a memorandum of understanding has been agreed upon for unrestricted shipping through the Strait of Hormuz and removal of mines by Iran, contingent on approval by President Donald Trump.The Foreign Office stated that Dar’s visit reflects Pakistan’s commitment to strengthen its longstanding partnership with the United States.After concluding his engagements, Dar is expected to return to Islamabad later in the day.The outcome of these talks is anticipated to contribute to regional peace efforts and enhance cooperation between Islamabad and Washington.
