Senator Jinggoy Estrada to Post Bail Over Graft Allegations in Flood Control Projects
Senator Jinggoy Estrada, son of former president Joseph Estrada, is facing a third plunder case in under three decades, this time related to alleged corruption in flood control projects in Bulacan. On May 28, 2026, the Ombudsman charged him for allegedly benefiting P573 million from budget insertions on DPWH projects.Previously, Estrada was acquitted in two major corruption cases.
His first case involved jueteng operations in 2001, where he was accused of receiving kickbacks, but the Sandiganbayan acquitted him due to insufficient evidence and inconsistencies in the key witness’s testimony. The second case was linked to the pork barrel scam, where Estrada allegedly received P183 million in kickbacks through fake NGOs.
While he spent three years in detention due to the non-bailable nature of plunder, he was later acquitted of plunder and bribery charges after evidence did not meet the legal threshold or prove him as the main perpetrator.
The current case revolves around allegations from state witnesses that Estrada received substantial kickbacks from DPWH flood control projects in 2025.
Although a warrant of arrest has been issued for one graft charge, he remains free on bail while the Sandiganbayan 5th Division has yet to issue a warrant for the non-bailable plunder charge.Estrada continues to deny wrongdoing, citing official documents that allegedly show no record of budget insertions in his name. The case highlights ongoing scrutiny of corruption involving lawmakers and public infrastructure projects in the Philippines.
