The Government of Kenya has confirmed that all 16 suspected Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) cases identified across the country have tested negative, easing public concern amid heightened regional alertness.

Speaking on Friday, Mary Muthoni Muriuki, the Principal Secretary for the State Department for Public Health and Professional Standards, reassured Kenyans that there are currently no confirmed Ebola cases within the country's borders as of May 29, 2026.

She explained that the national disease surveillance system has been working effectively, allowing health authorities to quickly detect, isolate, and test suspected cases from different parts of the country.

According to her, the rapid response and laboratory confirmation of all 16 suspected cases as negative demonstrates the readiness and efficiency of Kenya’s public health monitoring systems.

The announcement comes at a time when several countries in East and Central Africa have reported Ebola outbreaks, prompting Kenya to strengthen screening measures at entry points such as airports, border crossings, and health facilities.Authorities have increased vigilance to prevent any possible importation of the virus, especially from neighbouring regions experiencing outbreaks.

Health officials have also urged members of the public to remain calm but alert, maintain good hygiene practices such as regular handwashing, and immediately report any suspected symptoms to the nearest health facility.

The government continues to emphasise preparedness, early detection, and community awareness as key tools in preventing the spread of Ebola and other infectious diseases.Overall, the situation remains under control, with no confirmed infections reported in the country.
