Kogi State Compensates Victims of Demolition, Advances Airport Projects

The Kogi State Government has compensated affected residents after demolishing a structure used by criminals in Idojie-Okene, Okene Local Government Area.

Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, represented by Director General Bureau of Lands Kehinde Augustine Salihu-Otaru, handed over cheques to 23 shop owners impacted by the demolition exercise carried out on January 15, 2026.The move aims to restore livelihoods and support lawful business activities in the community.

The government noted that the demolition targeted criminal hideouts to ensure public safety, but acknowledged that some residents engaged in legitimate businesses were affected.Compensation is split 70-30% between demolished shops and goods.

Salihu-Otaru emphasized that the government is also handling compensation for land acquired for the Airport project at Zariagi-Lokoja and Ajaokuta Free Trade Zone, with delays attributed to the large number of beneficiaries.Beneficiaries praised the governor's humanity and pledged to use funds responsibly.The administration stressed its commitment to addressing genuine complaints without compromising citizens' livelihoods.
