A 28-year-old man from Limpopo has been sentenced to 25 years' imprisonment for raping and robbing an 18-year-old woman in September 2014.The case, which took 12 years to resolve, involved Nhlanhla Makhubele attacking the victim outside a bar in Hlanganani.He allegedly assaulted her with a broken bottle, raped her multiple times, and stole her belongings before fleeing.Makhubele was arrested the day after the incident but failed to attend court, leading to a warrant.He was re-arrested in March 2025 and sentenced to 10 years for rape and 15 years for robbery with aggravating circumstances.Limpopo police praised the thorough investigation by Sergeant Vutomi Nkuna, emphasizing the importance of justice despite the lengthy delay.The acting police commissioner highlighted the sentence as a deterrent against gender-based violence and violent crime.
