Liverpool secure Champions League place after draw with Brentford as Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson bid farewell at Anfield

Liverpool secured qualification for next season’s Champions League after a tense 1-1 draw against Brentford at Anfield on the final day of the Premier League season.

Curtis Jones gave Liverpool the lead before Kevin Schade equalised for Brentford, who pushed hard late in the match in pursuit of a European qualification place but ultimately fell short.

The match was overshadowed by emotional farewells to two Liverpool legends, Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson, both of whom appeared to be playing their final home game for the club.

Salah, widely regarded as one of Liverpool’s greatest-ever players, was visibly emotional at full time and embraced former teammate Jordan Henderson on the pitch.Henderson praised Salah for everything he had contributed to both the club and his own career, describing the farewell as highly emotional.Andy Robertson also received a standing ovation and a guard of honour from teammates and staff after the match.

Since joining Liverpool from Hull City in 2017, Robertson has won every major honour with the club and leaves as one of the most successful full-backs in Liverpool’s modern history.

Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk admitted the season had been disappointing overall despite securing Champions League football, which he described as the minimum expectation for the club.

Brentford, meanwhile, narrowly missed out on European qualification despite a strong effort and several late chances, including a missed header from Dango Ouattara in stoppage time. The result marked the end of an era at Anfield, with supporters saying goodbye to key figures who helped define Liverpool’s recent successes.
