Makonda appoints Haji Manara as spokesperson for Tanzania national football teams

The Minister for Information, Culture, Arts and Sports, Paul Makonda, has officially appointed Haji Manara as the new spokesperson for all Tanzania national football teams operating under the National Sports Council (NSC).

The announcement was made on May 28, 2026 at the Parliament grounds in Dodoma, where the Minister addressed journalists and explained the importance of improving communication around national teams.According to Mr Makonda, the appointment is aimed at strengthening publicity, coordination, and engagement for all national football team matters.

He noted that Manara will be responsible for communicating official updates, team information, and other related issues to the public and media, ensuring better visibility of the squads.Haji Manara is a well-known figure in Tanzania football communication circles.

He previously served as Head of Communications at Simba Sports Club, where he was widely recognised for boosting the club’s media presence and improving fan engagement through strong communication strategies.

Later on, he also worked with Young Africans (Yanga) in a similar high-profile communications role, further building his reputation as one of the most influential football media personalities in the country.

Mr Makonda stated that the new role will operate under the National Sports Council (BMT), and is expected to bring more structured and effective communication between the national teams and the public.

The government believes that having a dedicated spokesperson will help reduce misinformation, improve transparency, and enhance public interest in Tanzania football.

The appointment is seen as part of broader efforts to professionalise sports communication and strengthen the image of national teams both locally and internationally.
