Tanzania has officially started the tendering process for constructing 56 sports schools all over the country, marking a major push in the government's efforts to improve sports and education together.

The Deputy Minister for Information, Culture, Arts and Sports, Hamis Mwinjuma, told Parliament that the project aims to have at least two schools in every region to nurture young athletes while ensuring they keep up with their studies.

The first phase will see seven schools built in Singida, Tanga, Ruvuma, Coast, Dodoma, Kagera, and Mtwara regions, with tenders already out for qualified contractors.The schools will combine athletic training with formal education, helping kids avoid the common problem of choosing between sports and academics.Regions like Rukwa, which are not in the first phase, will get their schools later.

The government is also investing in professional training for sports teachers through institutions like Malya College of Sports Development and University of Dar es Salaam to ensure the schools have skilled staff.

This project is seen as a long-term strategy to identify and develop local talent systematically, creating future professional athletes who can compete internationally, while also strengthening grassroots sports across all regions.
