First Nations Protesters Arrested at Victoria Park Ahead of Olympic Stadium Construction
In October 2017, Michelle Pittman and her nine-year-old son Dylan set out for what was meant to be a short day trip in Mount Royal National Park, NSW.Without food or water, they became disoriented in the bush and were lost for ten days.
Michelle describes the fear and responsibility she felt to keep her son safe, even sleeping on the cold ground and surviving on minimal resources, including drinking her own urine. They faced extreme weather, hunger, and exhaustion, but maintained hope and persevered. On the eleventh day, they encountered a road and were rescued by police.Their location had been traced using a note Michelle had left on the kitchen bench, listing their planned trips. The experience left physical and emotional scars, but also revealed the strength of resilience and the deep bond between mother and son.Michelle later wrote a book to share their story and inspire others to hold on to hope in dire situations.
