Mumbai Sees Second CNG Price Hike in Two Weeks Amid Rising Fuel Costs

In Mumbai and surrounding regions like Thane and Navi Mumbai, the price of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) has been increased by Rs 2 per kilogram, effective from midnight on Saturday. This is the second hike in just two weeks, reflecting continued pressure on energy prices due to ongoing conflict in West Asia. With the latest revision, CNG now costs Rs 86 per kg across the metropolitan region.Earlier, on May 14, Mahanagar Gas Limited had raised CNG prices by the same amount.Petrol and diesel prices have also seen multiple increases in recent weeks, with petrol reaching Rs 111.2 per litre and diesel Rs 97.8 per litre in Mumbai. These hikes follow a period of elevated global crude oil and natural gas prices, caused by supply disruptions linked to the war in West Asia.Brent crude traded at around $91.1 per barrel on Friday amid hopes of a possible US-Iran agreement. The Union government has directed state-run fuel companies to maintain at least 30 days’ LPG reserves to mitigate supply shortages.

India imports nearly 88% of its crude oil and about half of its natural gas, mainly through the Strait of Hormuz, which has been affected by the ongoing conflict.Consumers in Maharashtra are thus witnessing successive fuel price hikes as international events impact domestic energy costs.
