Amit Shah to chair security review meeting on India–Pakistan border and anti-drone systems in Rajasthan
Myanmar President Min Aung Hlaing is scheduled to visit India from May 30 to June 3, marking his first official visit following the formation of a new government after recent elections in Myanmar.
The visit is aimed at strengthening bilateral relations between India and Myanmar, with key focus areas including trade, border security, and regional cooperation.During his stay, he will lead a high-level delegation comprising cabinet ministers and business leaders.
He is expected to hold formal talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 1, where both sides will discuss ways to deepen diplomatic, economic, and strategic engagement.
As part of his itinerary, Min Aung Hlaing will travel to Bodh Gaya on May 30 and later visit Mumbai on June 2 for business interactions and industrial engagements. He will also participate in a business forum organised to promote economic collaboration between the two countries.
The visit reflects India’s broader strategic approach under its Neighbourhood First, Act East, and MAHASAGAR policies, which emphasise stronger connectivity and cooperation with neighbouring countries in the Indo-Pacific region.
The backdrop of the visit includes ongoing concerns related to instability in Myanmar, particularly the civil conflict that escalated in 2023, as well as India’s security concerns regarding insurgent groups operating near the border in Myanmar’s Sagaing region.
While India has remained cautious in its public stance on Myanmar’s internal political developments following the 2021 coup, it continues engagement due to strategic and security interests. The visit is therefore seen as an important step in maintaining diplomatic communication and addressing shared regional challenges.
