Over 300 athletes from all 31 regions of Mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar will compete at the 2026 National Athletics Championships starting today at Filbert Bayi Grounds in Kibaha, Pwani Region.

The two-day event, postponed from May due to logistical challenges, aims to identify talent for international competitions while boosting grassroots development.Athletics Tanzania President Rogath John Stephen emphasized Pwani's readiness, citing its proven capacity to host national events.The venue, named after Tanzanian legend Filbert Bayi, has been upgraded to ensure world-class standards.

The championships offer athletes a pathway to regional and global competitions like the African Championships and Olympics, playing a key role in Tanzania's sports development strategy by inspiring youth and maintaining community interest in track and field.
