NBI to issue subpoena to Nancy dela Rosa amid investigation into senator’s alleged escape from custody
The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) in the Philippines has confirmed that additional arrest warrants from the International Criminal Court (ICC) may soon be issued against several personalities.
NBI Director Melvin Matibag stated during a Saturday News Forum that the bureau is prepared to serve these warrants once they are officially released, emphasizing that their protocol applies regardless of the individual involved or the alleged crime.
Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa is currently facing an ICC arrest warrant in connection with alleged crimes against humanity related to killings during the war on drugs under former President Rodrigo Duterte.The NBI had previously attempted to serve the warrant at the Senate, but dela Rosa was placed under protective custody.His request for a temporary restraining order from the Supreme Court was denied.Justice Secretary Fredderick Vida has directed both the NBI and the Philippine National Police to carry out the arrest.Meanwhile, dela Rosa’s legal team contends that ICC warrants should go through the proper local court process.The situation remains ongoing, with authorities ready to implement international legal mandates while observing domestic legal procedures.
