DILG mulls reward system as authorities intensify search for Senator Bato dela Rosa amid ICC warrant
The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) is set to issue a subpoena to Nancy Dela Rosa, wife of Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa, as part of its ongoing inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the senator’s departure from Senate protective custody.
According to NBI Director Melvin Matibag, the bureau is also considering issuing subpoenas to other individuals who were last seen with the senator before he allegedly left custody following a shooting incident at the Senate on May 13, 2026.Authorities believe these individuals may have relevant information regarding his movements.
The investigation is connected to efforts by Philippine law enforcement agencies to enforce an arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC) against Senator dela Rosa.
The warrant relates to alleged crimes against humanity, specifically murder, covering incidents between July 2016 and April 2018, during which at least 32 deaths are cited in the case. The senator is currently considered a fugitive from justice, and authorities continue to search for his whereabouts.
The NBI also noted that the senator’s wife had previously made public statements online suggesting that the May 13 incident may have provided an opportunity for her husband to evade arrest. This statement is among the reasons why investigators are seeking her testimony.
Meanwhile, other agencies such as the Philippine National Police and the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) have also conducted operations and are examining additional individuals possibly involved in or aware of the senator’s movements.Authorities maintain that coordination between law enforcement units continues as they aim to locate Senator dela Rosa and enforce the ICC warrant.
The case remains active, with officials emphasizing that all relevant witnesses may be summoned to clarify events surrounding the senator’s departure from Senate custody.
