A Nigerian court conducted a visit to a clandestine methamphetamine laboratory in Ogun State, which is at the heart of the country's largest drug seizure.

The site, which was raided in May 2026, was examined by lawyers, the accused, and court officials to review evidence including chemicals, equipment, and precursor substances linked to the prosecution's case.

The operation, coordinated by Nigeria's National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, resulted in the arrest of 10 suspects, including three Mexican nationals, during raids spanning May 16-18.The seized drugs and chemicals are estimated to have a street value of $363 million (R6.09 billion), with the defendants facing 11 charges related to illegal drug production, trafficking, and organized crime.

The case underscores growing concerns about the expansion of foreign drug cartels into Nigeria, highlighting the scale of the operation and the potential impact on national security.The defendants have pleaded not guilty and were remanded for further legal proceedings.This incident reflects ongoing challenges in combating transnational drug networks and the complexities of international law enforcement cooperation.
