Nigerian community leaders for South Africa, under groups like Nigerian Union South Africa (NUSA) and Nigerian Citizens Association South Africa (NICASA), don report say at least 105 Nigerians don lose their lives in the country within the past seven years.Dem talk say many of these deaths connect to xenophobic violence, mob attacks, shootings, and alleged abuse by security operatives.

This statement come as response to one report from South Africa Broadcasting Corporation (SABC), wey quote government department (DIRCO) saying migrants no dey killed.The Nigerian community strongly reject that claim, saying it fit discourage victims and witnesses from speaking out, and weaken justice efforts.According to records wey dem gather from community reports, civil society, and media, serious incidents don happen across different years.For example, in 2019, xenophobic unrest for Johannesburg lead to burning of Nigerian businesses and about 12 deaths.In 2022, more than 17 Nigerians reportedly die through violent attacks and alleged brutality.The figure rise pass 40 in 2023, involving mob violence and unresolved killings.Eight deaths each were reported in 2024 and 2025, including shootings and deaths in custody.From January 2026 till now, over 20 Nigerians don reportedly die under troubling circumstances.The groups express concern say many of these cases no get proper investigation or accountability, which dey increase fear among migrants.Still, dem acknowledge say South Africa na democratic country and many citizens dey support peaceful coexistence.

Dem call on South African authorities to protect all residents, carry out transparent investigations, and strengthen action against xenophobia, mob justice, and unlawful killings.Dem also stress say rule of law must apply to everybody and promote dialogue and unity among communities.
