Nine arrested after disorder at north London football parade following Champions League final defeat

Nine people were arrested during a large-scale football parade in north London that descended into disorder following Arsenal’s Champions League final defeat to Paris Saint-Germain.

The Metropolitan Police confirmed a range of alleged offences, including drunk and disorderly behaviour, drugs offences, sexual assault, and assaults on emergency workers.

Scenes captured at the event showed significant unrest, with groups of supporters climbing on a police van, throwing objects, and chanting, while others made offensive gestures towards officers. In several instances, police were seen deploying batons as they attempted to control surging crowds near the Emirates Stadium.Emergency services reported further complications during the event.

The London Fire Brigade stated that approximately 75 people had to be rescued from height-related incidents after individuals climbed structures during the celebrations.A small fire at a hotel was also linked to a stray flare, although damage was limited to the building’s exterior.Fire alarms were triggered at multiple locations due to pyrotechnics used by crowds.

Transport across north London was heavily disrupted, with sections of the London Overground’s Mildmay line experiencing severe delays and several stations, including Holloway Road, Drayton Park and Essex Road, either closed or operating with restrictions. The Victoria line also bypassed Highbury & Islington station due to congestion.

Authorities estimated that up to one million people attended the parade, which involved a five-mile bus route and heavy police presence of over 500 officers.

Despite the intended celebratory atmosphere, the day was overshadowed by disorder, safety concerns, and multiple arrests amid widespread crowd congestion.
