Pakistan Announces Geneva Signing Ceremony for US-Iran Peace Agreement Following Ceasefire Framework

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif informed the National Assembly that Pakistan will host the signing ceremony of a US-Iran peace agreement in Geneva on June 19.

He described the development as a major diplomatic achievement and a significant step towards ending a conflict that has caused thousands of deaths, regional instability and disruption to global energy markets since February.

According to the prime minister, the agreement establishes an immediate and permanent end to military operations between the parties and is intended to promote peace, dialogue and diplomacy over continued conflict.

He stated that the breakthrough followed more than three months of difficult negotiations and called it a historic moment for both Pakistan and the international community.

During his speech, Shehbaz Sharif congratulated the governments and leadership of the United States and Iran, as well as the negotiating teams involved in the talks.He also thanked Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkiye and China for their support and diplomatic engagement throughout the process.

The prime minister particularly acknowledged the role of Qatar's Emir, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Domestically, he praised President Asif Ali Zardari, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and senior government officials.

He also paid tribute to Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, crediting him with extensive efforts to support peace initiatives during the negotiations.The prime minister noted that the conflict had placed considerable pressure on Pakistan's economy and the wider global economy.

He expressed hope that greater regional stability and the peace agreement would contribute to improved economic conditions and benefit people both in Pakistan and internationally.
