Peter Obi, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate for the 2027 election, has said that his desire to contest for the presidency is not because he is desperate to occupy the highest office in the country.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics programme, Obi explained that his biggest concern is to see Nigeria work well and deliver better outcomes for its citizens.

According to him, if anybody can genuinely provide good governance and move the country forward, he is ready to support such a person because the progress of Nigeria is more important than personal ambition.Obi also expressed deep concern about the direction the country is taking.He said that, year after year, more Nigerians are falling into poverty while the number of children who are out of school continues to increase.In his view, these developments show that the country is moving in the wrong direction and require urgent action from responsible leadership.

The former Anambra State Governor added that his vision remains to build a united and peaceful Nigeria where every citizen has equal opportunities, regardless of tribe or religion.The report also mentioned comments from Akin Osuntokun, a former political adviser to ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo.

Osuntokun claimed during an interview with Arise News that Obasanjo fully supports a possible Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso joint ticket for the 2027 presidential election and described the former president as the main backer of that arrangement.

However, the main focus of the report is Obi’s insistence that his interest is centred on improving Nigeria rather than satisfying personal political ambition.
