Philippine authorities have successfully intercepted large quantities of smuggled cigarettes in two separate operations across Zamboanga Sibugay and Lanao del Norte.In Zamboanga Sibugay, the Naval Command Western Mindanao (NCWM) seized 1,436 master cases and 55 reams of foreign-branded cigarettes worth P234.3 million from a Malaysian-styled boat near Lutangan Island.The crew members were arrested for failing to present proper documentation.Meanwhile, in Lanao del Norte, police confiscated two shipments of illegal cigarettes totaling P860,000.

The first shipment, valued at P660,000, was found in a truck intercepted in Iligan City, while the second, worth P200,000, was discovered in a multicab stopped at a checkpoint in Pantar town.Both drivers failed to provide cargo documents.The seized items were handed over to the Bureau of Customs for further processing.

These seizures mark significant victories in combating cigarette smuggling in Western Mindanao, with officials emphasizing their impact on curbing illegal trade networks.

The operations highlight the collaborative efforts between naval forces and local police in enforcing customs regulations and protecting economic interests.
