Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed the government to fully digitize remittances from abroad as part of efforts to transition Pakistan's economy toward a cashless and digital payments-based system.

The directive was issued during a meeting in Islamabad focused on promoting a cashless economy, where PM Shehbaz emphasized the importance of increasing digital transactions through QR codes for merchants.

He commended his economic team for achieving a 300% rise in active merchants using QR codes over the past year, highlighting progress toward a more transparent and sustainable economic model.The move aims to enhance financial inclusion, reduce reliance on cash, and improve transaction efficiency.

PM Shehbaz also stressed that digitizing remittances would contribute to long-term economic growth by fostering innovation and reducing vulnerabilities associated with traditional payment methods.

This initiative aligns with broader goals of modernizing Pakistan's financial infrastructure and positioning the country as a hub for digital commerce in South Asia.
