PTI to hold nationwide rallies on August 5 as party marks Imran Khan's arrest anniversary

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has announced that it will organise nationwide rallies on August 5 to mark the anniversary of the arrest of party founder and former prime minister Imran Khan.

The decision was made during a meeting of the party's parliamentary leadership and was announced by PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan at a press conference. He said the meeting covered not only the planned programme but also the overall political situation in the country.According to Barrister Gohar, the parliamentary party strongly condemned the continued imprisonment of Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi.Imran Khan has remained in custody since August 2023 following convictions that he and PTI maintain are politically motivated.

Since his removal from office through a no-confidence vote in 2022, he has faced numerous legal cases, including corruption and terrorism-related charges. While some convictions have been suspended or overturned, several appeals are still pending before the courts.

The announcement follows recent remarks by Imran Khan's sister, Aleema Khan, who urged PTI workers in Lower Dir to intensify efforts for his release.

She called on party workers to remain organised, seek justice through peaceful political mobilisation, and encourage PTI lawmakers to actively participate in the party's anti-government campaign. The report also highlights ongoing concerns raised by PTI and Khan's family regarding his health and prison conditions.

Last month, he underwent a scheduled eye treatment at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), where doctors administered his fifth intravitreal injection as part of treatment for central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO), a serious eye condition associated with cardiovascular risk factors.
