West Bengal to induct 35 ministers as cabinet expansion scheduled under new government
A political confrontation has intensified between the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) following the re-poll results in West Bengal’s Falta constituency.BJP candidate Debangshu Panda secured a decisive victory, winning by over one lakh votes, while CPI(M) and Congress candidates trailed significantly.
The re-poll was conducted after earlier voting irregularities led the Election Commission of India to order fresh polling across all booths in the constituency. The turnout was reportedly high, with more than 87 per cent of eligible voters participating.
Following the result, TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee raised concerns regarding the counting process, alleging inconsistencies in the timing of vote counting compared to earlier state election results.
He claimed that unlike the West Bengal Assembly elections held earlier, the Falta counting process progressed unusually fast and demanded an explanation from the Election Commission.
He also alleged lapses in security and fairness, including claims that opposition party agents were removed from counting centres and that political violence and intimidation affected party workers in the area.
In response, BJP leaders, including Suvendu Adhikari, strongly criticised the TMC, accusing it of corruption, misuse of state machinery, and undermining democratic processes.
Adhikari described the result as a reflection of public rejection of the ruling party and said it marked the beginning of a broader political shift in West Bengal. The exchange has further deepened tensions between the two parties, with both sides trading accusations on social media. The Election Commission has not yet publicly responded to the latest allegations raised by TMC leadership.
