Federal Government Approves 1,000 Forest Guards and Special Rescue Operation After Oyo School Abduction
A high-level Federal Government delegation on Sunday visited Esiele and Yawota communities in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State following the abduction of pupils and teachers from several schools, including Community Grammar School, Baptist Nursery and Primary School, and L.A.Primary School, on 15 May 2026.The visit was aimed at consoling affected families and updating them on ongoing rescue efforts.
The delegation was led by the President’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, and included the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, the Inspector-General of Police, the Minister of Defence, Christopher Musa, and the Special Adviser on Media and Public Communications, Sunday Dare.
During the visit, the officials conveyed President Bola Tinubu’s deep concern over the incident and reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring the safe return of the abducted pupils and teachers.
As part of immediate security measures, the President approved the recruitment and deployment of 1,000 forest guards in Oyo State, in collaboration with the state government, to strengthen surveillance in forested and vulnerable areas often used by criminal groups.
The delegation also communicated that a request for the establishment of a military base in the affected region would be reviewed and considered by the Presidency.
The Federal Government further directed a specialised security unit with advanced rescue capabilities to intensify intelligence-led operations combining both kinetic and non-kinetic strategies.
The delegation also paid a courtesy visit to the palace of the Soun of Ogbomoso, HRM Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye, and met with the family of a deceased school teacher, Mary Oyedokun, offering condolences and assurances of government support.
Authorities emphasized that efforts are ongoing to secure the safe release of all abducted victims while reassuring communities of sustained security interventions in the area.
