Indian Man Convicted of Murder After Stabbing Wife in Canada
Police in Ottawa are investigating a tragic case involving the deaths of two young boys, aged seven and twelve, who were allegedly killed by their father, Mohammed Al-Lami, in their south Ottawa home. The man is also believed to have firebombed his dental practice in a nearby village before dying by suicide in a vehicle fire on the same day.
As the investigation continues, court records have revealed troubling details about prior threats Al-Lami made against his ex-wife, the mother of the children. In 2024, Al-Lami was charged after sending an email containing violent threats to his former partner and her current partner. In the message, he allegedly threatened severe harm, including statements about killing people around her and causing lasting injury. The case proceeded to a brief trial in February, where the accused represented himself and declined to present a defence or testify.
His ex-wife described a history of threatening behaviour, though she initially did not fully report earlier incidents, believing they were indirect or not serious.
During sentencing in April, the Crown sought probation, treatment programming, and other conditions, citing concerns about a lack of remorse or insight. The judge ultimately issued a conditional discharge with 12 months of probation but did not impose several recommended conditions.
The judge acknowledged the seriousness of the written threat but indicated uncertainty about whether it represented an intention to carry out physical harm.Following the deaths, police have expressed support for the family while noting that forensic examinations are still ongoing.Authorities have not released the names of the children, respecting the mother’s privacy.
Officials also encouraged the public to seek support if affected by intimate partner violence or emotional distress, highlighting available crisis resources across Canada.
