Congress MP and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi criticised the Delhi Police after tear gas and lathi-charge were used against protesters marching towards Parliament over the alleged NEET-UG 2026 paper leak.

The demonstration, organised by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), sought accountability for the alleged examination irregularities and demanded the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

As protesters attempted to move from Jantar Mantar towards Parliament on the opening day of the Monsoon Session, security personnel stopped the march, resulting in clashes and the use of force to disperse the crowd.

In a post on X, Rahul Gandhi said that peaceful protest is a fundamental constitutional right and warned police personnel and government officials against blindly following orders.

He stated that the Constitution, not the government, is their ultimate authority and remarked that political power is temporary while accountability will eventually be enforced.

In a separate video message, he described the police action as undemocratic and accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of failing India's youth by not addressing repeated examination paper leaks.Rahul Gandhi argued that the protesting students were seeking a fair and credible education system rather than engaging in unlawful activities.

Following the clashes, police dismantled the protest site at Jantar Mantar, although demonstrators continued gathering nearby and vowed to continue their agitation until their demands were met.Some protesters alleged injuries, temporary detention and restrictions on access to water during the police action.

The incident has intensified the political debate over the handling of the alleged NEET-UG paper leak and the government's response to student protests.
