Senate appoints Marcoleta and Jinggoy Estrada as vice chairpersons of Blue Ribbon Committee
The Philippine Senate is set to resume its investigation into the alleged flood control scam on June 4, 2026, according to Senate President Alan Peter Cayetano.
He announced that a subcommittee under the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee will handle the continuation of the hearings, with Senator Rodante Marcoleta tasked to issue formal notices starting June 1.The hearings are expected to proceed after internal discussions among senators regarding how the probe will move forward.
Cayetano explained that the flood control controversy is one of three major priorities of the Senate, alongside concerns related to the country’s economic situation and the impeachment proceedings involving Vice President Sara Duterte.
The resumption of the probe follows earlier suspension of hearings by former Blue Ribbon Committee chair Senator Panfilo Lacson, who had required at least nine signatures from committee members to support and present a partial report on the issue.
Lacson later reported that only seven senators had signed the partial report, raising concerns that it may not progress further if sufficient support is not reached before the 20th Congress adjourns sine die on June 5, 2026.
Senators Vicente Sotto III questioned the legality of issuing notices and forming a subcommittee without proper plenary approval, saying procedural rules may not have been followed correctly.
Despite disagreements among senators on procedure, the Senate leadership is pushing to continue the inquiry, highlighting ongoing political tensions within the chamber while the investigation into alleged irregularities in flood control projects remains unresolved.
