Atiku Abubakar Secures ADC Ticket for 2027 Presidential Race Amid Challenges
The Sokoto State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has officially endorsed former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as its preferred presidential candidate ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The announcement was made during a press conference held on Sunday in Sokoto by party chieftain Muktar Magori, a former Chief of Staff to ex-Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal.
Magori explained that the decision was reached through consensus among ADC loyalists and other key stakeholders in the state as part of early preparations for the party’s forthcoming presidential primaries and the national elections.
The endorsement meeting had several notable party figures in attendance, including former Commissioner for Information Dahiru Maishanu, former Head of Service Alhaji Abubakar Muhammad, and the State Chairman of the ADC, Alhaji Abdullahi Maigwandu, among others, showing a strong internal alignment within the Sokoto chapter of the party.
In a related political development within the same party, the ADC in Enugu State strongly rejected alleged statements credited to the Minister of Works, David Umahi, suggesting that the South-East region may lose federal infrastructure projects if it does not support President Bola Tinubu in 2027.The Enugu ADC described such remarks as reckless and an attempt to politically intimidate voters in the region.
The party insisted that Nigerians, especially people from the South-East, will freely choose their preferred candidates based on fairness, governance performance, and inclusion rather than threats or pressure.
The Enugu ADC also criticized the current federal administration, alleging continued marginalisation of the South-East in infrastructure development, citing issues such as lack of major ongoing projects, absence of rail expansion, and concerns about passport processing systems in the region.
The party maintained that the South-East owes no political loyalty to the ruling government and will determine its voting pattern independently in the 2027 elections.
Overall, the developments highlight rising political positioning within the ADC across different states as parties begin early mobilization and alignments ahead of the 2027 presidential race in Nigeria.
