A four-year-old boy has been left with life-altering injuries after being assaulted by his stepfather, resulting in a fractured skull, brain bruising, broken ribs and 34 bruises.The man, in his early 30s, was jailed for two years and six months after pleading guilty to aggravated assault.The court heard the child referred to him as 'Pa' or 'Dad' during the abuse, which occurred while they were alone.Medical experts concluded the injuries were caused by blunt-force trauma rather than a fall from a bicycle.Justice Belinda Baker emphasized the breach of trust, noting the attack happened in the child's home where he felt safe.The stepfather showed no remorse despite acknowledging his failure to care for the child.Support services are available for those affected by the incident.
