Port Harcourt Set To Host 2026 NWFL Super Six Women Football Tournament
The Super Falcons of Nigeria have released a 23-player squad for their upcoming international friendly matches against Senegal, with key stars Asisat Oshoala, Rasheedat Ajibade and goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie leading the list.
The squad was announced by head coach Justine Madugu through the Nigeria Football Federation, as part of preparations for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
The team list also features experienced players such as Ngozi Okobi-Okeoghene, Francisca Ordega, Gift Monday, Halimatu Ayinde, Toni Payne, Jennifer Echegini, Christy Ucheibe and Rinsola Babajide.
Madugu also included a number of fresh and returning faces, giving opportunities to Belarus-based forward Blessing Nkor and Turkey-based midfielder Kafayat Shittu.
Home-based players like goalkeeper Anderline Mgbechi, defender Sikiratu Isah, Rofiat Imuran and Oluwatosin Demehin were also included, showing a blend of foreign-based experience and local talent.
According to the schedule, Nigeria will host Senegal’s Lionesses of Teranga in a two-match friendly series at the Remo Stars Sports Complex in Ikenne, Ogun State.The first match is set for June 6, while the second will be played on June 8.
These friendly games are part of Nigeria’s broader preparation for the 2026 WAFCON tournament scheduled for July to August, which also serves as qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Nigeria, 10-time African champions, are placed in Group C alongside Egypt, Zambia and debutants Malawi, and the team is expected to use these friendlies to fine-tune tactics, assess squad depth and improve team chemistry ahead of the continental competition.
