TANAPA introduces redesigned entry permits to improve park management and tourism services

Tanzania National Parks Authority (TANAPA) has officially launched redesigned entry permits aimed at improving tourism services and strengthening management across the country’s protected areas.

The new permits feature unique branding for each of Tanzania’s 21 national parks, giving every destination its own visual identity while modernising the overall visitor experience. The launch took place in Arusha over the weekend and marks a key step in TANAPA’s broader digital transformation agenda.

According to Conservation Commissioner CPA Musa Nasoro Kuji, the updated permits are not just about appearance but are part of a larger strategy to improve transparency, accountability, and efficiency in park operations. He explained that the system is designed to enhance visitor engagement while also improving monitoring and administrative processes within the parks.

The new permits also include advanced security and traceability features meant to reduce fraud and improve verification of visitors, especially as tourism numbers continue to rise.

Tanzania remains one of Africa’s leading wildlife tourism destinations, with iconic sites such as Serengeti, Kilimanjaro, Tarangire, Ruaha, and Nyerere National Parks.Together, these parks contribute significantly to conservation efforts and national revenue.

TANAPA reported earning around 500 billion Tanzanian shillings (about 185 million US dollars) in the last financial year, showing growth from 430 billion shillings the previous year.

Stakeholders in the tourism sector have welcomed the initiative, noting that stronger branding and improved systems will enhance visitor satisfaction and global competitiveness.

The redesigned permits are expected to support sustainable tourism growth while ensuring better protection of Tanzania’s natural heritage in a more modern and efficient way.
