Tanzania's Plan to Transform DITF into Global Innovation and Trade Hub by 2050
The Tanzanian government, through Vice President Emmanuel Nchimbi, has outlined a vision to transform the Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair (DITF) from a traditional product exhibition into a global hub for innovation, research, technology, and international trade by 2050.
This initiative, announced during the 50th anniversary celebrations of the DITF (known as Sabasaba), emphasizes creating a platform that attracts investors, innovators, and entrepreneurs while boosting Tanzanian products in global markets.
Nchimbi highlighted the need for improved business environments and access to capital for SMEs, urging financial institutions to expand affordable financing.Minister Judith Kapinga noted significant growth in Tanzania's exports, reaching $18.6bn, with merchandise exports at $11bn, a 11% increase.Dr.Latipha Mohamed Khamis of TanTrade reported that the DITF has generated over $129.31 trillion in business opportunities over five decades, contributing substantially to economic growth through trade and industrial development.The initiative underscores Tanzania's strategic focus on leveraging its trade infrastructure to drive innovation and global competitiveness.
