Google introduces Android caller verification feature to reduce spoofed calls and phone scams
Tencent has announced a major upgrade to its inbound payment ecosystem as part of the “2026 Inbound Payment Service Upgrade Initiative,” unveiled at the Shenzhen International Financial Expo in preparation for APEC 2026.
The initiative aims to make digital payments significantly easier for international travelers visiting China by enhancing product capabilities, expanding global wallet partnerships, and improving multilingual service coverage.
A key highlight is the collaboration between TenPay Global and PayPal World, which enables PayPal users to pay at millions of Weixin Pay merchants in China by scanning QR codes. The service will first launch for users in the United States, with additional markets to follow.
This integration allows international visitors to use their familiar digital wallets without needing to download new apps, reinforcing Tencent’s “Pay with Your Home Wallet” model already supported by more than 40 overseas wallet institutions.
Tencent also introduced a 90-day waiver of international card processing fees for first-time users linking an overseas bank card to Weixin Pay, with daily spending limits up to RMB 1,000.This aims to reduce friction and costs for foreign travelers using WeChat’s payment ecosystem.Usage data cited in the announcement shows a significant increase in transactions from international card users, highlighting growing adoption.
In addition, Weixin Pay is rolling out payment guidance in 16 languages across Shenzhen’s key entry points, including airports, ports, commercial districts, and banks. The multilingual support covers major APEC economies and is designed to lower barriers for foreign visitors.Tencent is also deploying offline service desks and 24/7 online multilingual support to further improve accessibility.
Finally, Tencent has partnered with domestic tax refund institutions to streamline departure tax refunds, allowing eligible users of overseas wallets to receive refunds directly into their preferred digital wallets within seconds.Together, these initiatives aim to create a seamless, end-to-end payment experience for international visitors during APEC 2026 and beyond.
