Trans Niger Pipeline reports zero infractions amid improved oil security as Nigeria nears OPEC production target

The Pipeline Infrastructure Nigeria Limited (PINL) has reported that the Trans Niger Pipeline recorded zero infractions in the past month, indicating a strong improvement in pipeline security and reduced incidents of vandalism across its operational corridors.According to the company’s General Manager for Community and Stakeholders Relations, Dr.

Akpos Mezeh, this progress is largely due to improved collaboration with host communities, enhanced intelligence gathering, and sustained stakeholder engagement across Rivers, Imo, and Abia States. He noted that the stability along the pipeline corridors has directly contributed to better protection of critical oil and gas infrastructure. The report also comes at a time when Nigeria’s oil production has shown significant recovery. The Federal Government reportedly achieved about 99.2 percent of its 1.5 million barrels per day OPEC production quota in April 2026, with peak output reaching around 1.85 million barrels per day, according to data from the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC).This increase reflects a 7.58 percent rise compared to the previous month.

In addition, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) recorded improved performance in the sector, posting about N276 billion profit after tax in March 2026, supported by higher oil and gas output.

Stakeholders attributed these gains to better protection of oil assets and increased cooperation among communities, security agencies, and surveillance teams.

Traditional rulers in affected areas, including the Emohua and Eleme kingdoms, commended PINL for its efforts in reducing vandalism and boosting economic stability. They also highlighted the company’s social investment initiatives such as scholarships and empowerment programmes.

PINL reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining community engagement and ensuring continued stability along pipeline routes to support Nigeria’s overall oil production growth and revenue generation.
