IMD issues warning as dust storms and strong winds hit Delhi
The Managing Director of the Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage (TWAD) Board, Dinesh Ponraj Oliver, has emphasised the importance of conducting regular quality tests of potable water in municipal areas of Virudhunagar district.
During his first visit to the district after assuming office, he reviewed ongoing development works in the presence of the District Collector and senior officials at the Collectorate.He instructed municipal engineers to strictly follow guidelines on periodic water quality testing to ensure safe drinking water for residents.He also directed contracting agencies to adhere to project timelines and accelerate the pace of ongoing works.The MD acknowledged operational challenges such as fund allocation constraints, water distribution issues, and fluctuations in electricity supply.However, he stressed that officials carry the responsibility of ensuring basic services to citizens and must work towards overcoming these obstacles.He highlighted the need to restore defunct borewells and explore new ones to strengthen water availability in the region.
Further, he called for innovation in designing sewage treatment plants (STPs) and underground drainage (UGD) systems that can remain effective for the next 10 to 20 years, taking into account population growth and urban needs.He reviewed major projects including a ₹297.25 crore UGD initiative in Aruppukottai Municipality and the Tamirabharani drinking water supply scheme.He urged engineers and technocrats to focus on long-term, sustainable infrastructure solutions to ensure reliable civic amenities for the public.
