PDEA conducts separate anti-drug operations, seizes P13.6 million worth of shabu in Mindanao
Two municipal traffic enforcers were killed in a shooting incident in Malabang, Lanao del Sur, within the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).
The victims, identified as Samar Marohom and Jamael Talib, were residents of Barangay Curahab and were reportedly performing their traffic management duties along a busy road in Barangay Campo Muslim when the attack occurred on June 4.According to police and local officials, armed men riding a motorcycle approached the two enforcers and repeatedly fired at them using .45-caliber and 9mm pistols.Both victims sustained multiple gunshot wounds and were rushed by emergency responders to Doctor Serapio Montañer Hospital in Malabang.However, attending physicians declared them dead on arrival.
Authorities from the Lanao del Sur Provincial Police Office and the Police Regional Office-Bangsamoro said initial findings indicate that the attack may have been premeditated.
Local government officials and traditional Maranao leaders believe the killings could be connected to the victims’ strict enforcement of municipal traffic regulations.The two men were reportedly known in the community for being diligent and firm in carrying out their responsibilities.
After the shooting, the suspects immediately fled the area aboard a motorcycle that reportedly had no license plate, making identification more difficult.
Law enforcement authorities have launched an investigation to identify the perpetrators, determine the motive behind the killings, and bring those responsible to justice.The incident has raised concerns about the safety of local government personnel performing public service duties in the area.
