U.S. Launches Additional Defensive Strikes on Iran Amid Ongoing Ceasefire Negotiations

The United States carried out additional military strikes against Iranian targets after U.S.forces intercepted several Iranian attack drones near the Strait of Hormuz.According to U.S.officials, American forces shot down four Iranian one-way drones considered a threat to regional security and also struck a ground control station in Bandar Abbas that was reportedly preparing to launch another drone. The actions were described by the Pentagon as defensive operations during a fragile ceasefire period.

President Donald Trump stated during a Cabinet meeting that Iran was weakening economically and politically, saying the country was “negotiating on fumes.

” He expressed confidence that a broader agreement could eventually be reached to reduce tensions and reopen the Strait of Hormuz, an important global oil shipping route.Trump also insisted that upcoming U.S.midterm elections would not influence his negotiating strategy. The emerging negotiations reportedly include Iran giving up its stockpile of highly enriched uranium in exchange for sanctions relief.

However, details remain unresolved, including where the uranium would be transferred and whether the ceasefire would also apply to Hezbollah operations involving Israel and Lebanon.Trump indicated discomfort with Russia or China taking possession of Iran’s enriched uranium.

The possible agreement has drawn criticism from several Republican lawmakers and conservative allies who argue the proposed terms resemble the Obama-era Iran nuclear deal that Trump previously abandoned. At the same time, regional tensions remain high as Israel continues military operations against Hezbollah in southern Lebanon.

Trump also renewed efforts to expand the Abraham Accords by encouraging additional Middle Eastern countries to normalize relations with Israel, although some regional governments reportedly reacted cautiously to the proposal.
