Former Mwananchi Communications Limited (MCL) Board Chairman Leonard Clement Mususa has passed away at the age of 72, as confirmed by his family on Saturday, May 30, 2026.

His death has been described as a major loss to Tanzania’s business and corporate governance sectors, where he served for many years in senior leadership and advisory roles.Funeral arrangements are currently underway, according to the family statement.Born on September 25, 1953, Mususa was widely respected as a seasoned accountant, business consultant, and corporate leader.

He held Fellowship status with both the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (FCCA) and the Certified Public Accountant of Tanzania (FCPA-T), reflecting his strong professional background in finance and auditing.

His career spanned more than three decades, including over 36 years at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), where he eventually rose to the position of Country Senior Partner in Tanzania before retiring in 2014.

Mususa also played a significant role in the media and corporate sector as Chairman of the Board of MCL, publishers of Mwananchi, The Citizen, and Mwanaspoti, serving for about nine years before stepping down in 2024.He also chaired Tanzania Breweries PLC (TBL) for seven years and later served as Chairman of Selcom Microfinance Bank Tanzania Limited.

Throughout his career, he sat on multiple boards across Tanzania, Kenya, and Mauritius, including NMB Plc, Nation Media Group Plc, and Reliance Insurance Company Tanzania.

Beyond corporate leadership, he contributed to national economic discussions as a member of the CEO Roundtable of Tanzania, the Tanzania Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture (TCCIA), and the Presidential Tax Reforms Commission.

Colleagues describe him as a principled, visionary leader who strongly promoted integrity, accountability, and institutional development in both public and private sectors.His passing leaves a significant gap in Tanzania’s financial and corporate leadership landscape.
