Westlands MP Tim Wanyonyi's campaign team has unveiled a banner linking his Bungoma gubernatorial bid to Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna's presidential ambitions, signaling a potential break from the broad-based government alliance he previously supported.

This move marks a significant shift in Wanyonyi's political allegiance, aligning him with the Linda Mwananchi faction led by Sifuna, an opposition bloc that has openly rejected President William Ruto's 2027 re-election bid.

The banner, unveiled on 21 July, features Wanyonyi's portrait alongside messaging for his gubernatorial race and imagery endorsing Sifuna's presidential aspirations.

This development is notable given Wanyonyi's earlier association with the Ruto-aligned broad-based government camp, making his shift a striking family divergence from his elder brother, National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang'ula, who remains a key figure in the Ruto administration.Sifuna, who has been stripped of key ODM positions, is set to declare his presidential ambitions at a major rally in Bungoma later this month.

He has emphasized the youth's support as a foundation for his bid, stating that while institutional titles can be revoked, the goodwill of ordinary Kenyans remains irreplaceable.The move underscores growing tensions within the ODM party and the shifting dynamics ahead of the 2027 general election.
