Audit reveals Defence recovered fraud-related debt from employee and identified weaknesses in misconduct investigations
A 36-year-old woman from New South Wales has been denied bail following allegations that she attempted to print child exploitation material at a photo printing business in Belconnen, Canberra.
The matter was heard in the ACT Magistrates Court on Saturday, where she faced one count relating to aggravated possession of child exploitation material. The accused has not been named to protect the identity of the alleged victim.According to police allegations, the woman visited a Belconnen printing store on Wednesday and attempted to print a series of images.Due to a malfunction in the printing equipment, the transaction was reportedly refunded and she left the premises.
Shortly afterwards, staff allegedly discovered that multiple images consistent with child exploitation material had failed to print and subsequently contacted police. This triggered an investigation by ACT Policing. The woman was later arrested on Friday after police stopped her vehicle in Canberra.
During the bail hearing, the prosecution opposed her release on conditional liberty, while the defence argued against the police bail consideration form, describing it as speculative.Despite these arguments, the magistrate ultimately ordered that the court be closed for part of the proceedings and later refused bail.As a result of the decision, the accused remains in custody and is scheduled to return to court next week.
ACT Policing has also reiterated its call for members of the public to report any information related to the accessing, possession, or creation of child exploitation material through Crime Stoppers, with options for anonymous reporting available. The case remains before the courts and further details, including any plea, have not yet been publicly disclosed.
