A member of the House of Representatives representing Zamfara State's Maru/Bungudu constituency, Hon.Abdulmalik Zubairu, has advised residents to withdraw savings and purchase weapons to defend against bandit attacks.This comes after the abduction of Bungudu LG Chairman Nura Abdullahi and the killing of four security personnel by bandits.Zubairu acknowledged that his call violates the constitution but argued that the ongoing violence forces communities into difficult choices.He emphasized that while the constitution prohibits gun ownership, the continued killing of innocent people makes self-defense a necessary evil.

The lawmaker stated that bandits have an advantage due to their access to sophisticated weapons, and urged communities to register any acquired firearms with authorities for collective protection.

He also highlighted that both federal and state governments are making efforts to tackle insecurity, but citizens must also take responsibility for their safety.The advice has sparked debate on balancing constitutional rights with the need for self-defense in conflict zones.
