With over 600 tourist hotels, the islands face high demand for chicken meat, vegetables, fruits, and spices, but around 70% of these products were previously imported.The government is creating a favorable environment for both local and foreign investors in agriculture and livestock to boost production.Minister Suleiman Masoud Makame emphasized reducing imports of eggs, chicken, and vegetables through new strategies.A Türkiye investor's poultry farm in Kitope will produce one million chickens monthly, with plans to supply fresh chicken gradually.Challenges like electricity supply are being addressed.The project aims to cut frozen chicken imports and increase fresh chicken availability.Modern farming methods are being promoted to improve productivity, while efforts to reduce vegetable and fruit imports have already decreased by 80%.Egg production and chicken slaughter numbers have risen significantly in recent years.These initiatives aim to create jobs for youth and transform Zanzibar's food security landscape.
