Tanzania Allocates TZS 137.81 Billion in 2026/27 Industry and Trade Budget to Industrial Projects and Regional Trade Expansion
For the first time, Zanzibar has received a direct fuel delivery from Saudi Arabia, with a total of 36 million litres comprising petrol, diesel, and aviation fuel, offloaded at Mangapwani Integrated Port. This historic shipment marks a major step in boosting Zanzibar's fuel storage and supply infrastructure.
Previously, the islands relied on a single supplier in Tanga, which sometimes led to fuel shortages due to limited shipments and regional conflicts in the Middle East affecting supply. The government has now partnered with One Petroleum (OP), which delivered the largest fuel volume ever received directly in Zanzibar. The shipment is expected to meet the islands' fuel needs for an entire month.Plans are underway to develop storage facilities capable of holding up to 85 million litres, ensuring reserves for nearly three months.OP is also constructing its own tanks with a 50-million-litre capacity.
Authorities say this move will reduce operational costs, prevent future shortages, and stabilize fuel prices, benefiting trade, industry, and public services.Monthly shipments from Saudi Arabia will continue to secure a reliable energy supply.Residents are reassured that fuel shortages are unlikely in the near future, and the initiative positions Zanzibar as a regional fuel hub.
