Atiku criticizes Tinubu over multi-billion naira palace allocation and constitutional concerns

Presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar has condemned the Tinubu administration for allocating ₦22.15 billion in the 2026 budget to renovate 106 palaces across Nigeria, calling it a constitutional violation.

A report by Tracka revealed the funds are being routed through MDAs without proper mandates, with projects like the Federal Cooperative College in Ibadan and Sheda Science Complex in Abuja handling palace renovations.

Atiku highlighted that the budget deficit and rising debt make such allocations irresponsible, as critical sectors like health and education are neglected. He criticized the lack of transparency, noting that 11 palace projects lack identified locations and beneficiaries, raising fears of corruption. The Federal Government’s refusal to disclose traditional rulers’ identities and project details further fuels suspicions.

Atiku urged immediate disclosure of all allocations and their legal basis, stressing that the Constitution assigns palace maintenance to state governments, not the federal budget.
